The Saga Continues…

October 8, 2008 · 2 Comments

I’m still alive… Don’t you worry. My weekend off was busy as usual and I just haven’t had much to blog about lately–other than my Dell Mini. I’ve fallen in love with this little thing…. I’m more addicted to it that my BlackBerry!

I just went back on call today at 0600 through next Tuesday at 0600. It has been horibly slow as of late–our service has had 7 calls in 11 days. I know that now that I have said that alloud I am bound to be hit back to back through next week.
While being slow is good–because people aren’t getting sick/abusing the EMS system, I can only surf the internet so much before I hit the END, again
Life goes on, I guess…. Any suggestions for classes for me to take? I’m considering FP-C. Are there any others worthwile?

Take the CCEMT-P course. It’s either very short and intense or very long and drawn out, depending on where you take it.

I did the former about a year ago at the Medical College of Georgia’s Center for Operational Medicine. They teach the UMBC CCEMT-P curriculum with extras, like clinical and lab time. I was down there (in Augusta) for 18 days, and it was worth every minute. It’s good for three years, and you need 36 hours of critical care con-ed to renew. The good news is that most of the con-ed can be applied to your National Registry cert (if you’re Nationally Registered).

Of course, there are class offerings that are more spaced out over periods of weeks – it all depends on your own schedule and learning style.

The material is, in part, intended to be a preparation for the FP-C exam, and in my experience the classes were well-taught. I got a lot out of it.

If you want any further information, let me know.
